New Life Transitions was founded in 2012 by Founder/President George Slack. We currently operate 3 recovery homes with a combined total of 26 residents in the Portland-Metro area with a vision of opening a 100+ bed recovery facility by 2015.
The outpouring of community feedback has been outstanding with many private and corporate donors that have come on board to partner with New Life Transitions helping us to reach our goal of opening a new facility. But it is going to take many more community partners. We firmly believe in the motto of " giving a hand up not a hand out " for our residents.
We would like to give the following shout outs to current community partners: The Home Depot, Safeway Corporation, Kobos Coffee, Stark'sVacuum's, Community Appliance, Penske, Multnomah and Clackamas County Parole and Probation, and all of the private donors that have made it possible to do the best we can of empowering our residents and giving them the tools needed to get a second chance on life.
NEW LIFE TRANSITIONS INC
This is an overview of who we are and what we
do. New Life Transitions is a 501c (3) non-profit based in the heart of
Portland. We operate safe and sober living recovery homes that provide a
structured path of recovery for men and women veterans returning home from the
war and have found themselves in hopeless situations and need assistance
adjusting to civilian life. We provide transitional housing for people
graduating residential alcohol and drug addiction treatment and men and women
who are in the legal system.
What we do
- Treat a person's immediate needs
(nutritional, medical or any major concerns)
- Provide case management to connect
with the resources they need
- Identify, address and provide treatment for emotional and spiritual maladies
- Provide a therapeutic atmosphere and
good fellowship in the home
- Teach job skills and develop work
ethic
- Educational development
- Parenting and life skills
- Budgeting and establishing bank
accounts
- Restore their sense of self worth
- Help understand and connect with public
transportation and address any driver’s license issues
- Provide transportation to personal
appointments and aftercare programs
Our goal is to give a person a hand up not a handout and provide them
with the training they need to become self-sufficient and not only productive
members of the community but to also have a positive impact. We also encourage,
once they get their feet firmly planted on the ground, to share this message of
hope and help others who are in the same predicament from which they came from.
Furthermore, if you have anyone in your life who you think could benefit from
our program; we will always be at your service. Please visit us on the web at
